All words listed below are banned from use in the nexus, with exceptions denoted by (parentheses) for specific cases. Exceptions may be removed if they are abused.
The list contains words that are personally, culturally, racially, or religiously offensive, as well as inappropriate sexual terms. These should, for the most part, be self evident, though additional context is provided for some articles in [brackets].
Allowances are made for curses in the course of IC roleplay, under the conditions that other players participating in the scene in question do not object to the language being used, and that any terms included in the list below are replaced prior to public posting of the log on the wiki. If a participating member of a scene requests that specific terms not be used, and they have a vested interest in the scene (i.e. they cannot or should not just ‘drop out’), other players are expected to honor such requests.
As with explicitly sexual situations, explicitly sexual words are not permitted in general conversation, or even in private messages. (Take it somewhere else, if you must!) This overrides the ‘IC’ exemption in all cases.
Changing one letter to get around listed words is not acceptable, nor is ‘l33tspeaking’ them, taking a single letter out, adding spaces, splitting words up into two words, spelling them backwords, hitting enter after one letter at a time, and so on. Obvious permutations and derivatives of these words are also not allowed.
Saying lesser variants (such as “darn” or “frick”) are acceptable as long as they are not used to personally insult anyone. No variants are acceptable for racial slurs. Interpretation of this and the above rule are left exclusively up to wizards.
Repeated use of a word that is not on this list, or repeated use of a partially-excepted word that is on this list, in an offensive fashion, may allow for that word to be added to this list, and punishment may still be administered.
If other words need to be added to this list (especially racial or religious terms, which the current staff may not be particularly familiar with), notify a wizard.
Repeated violation of this list, especially repeated violation of the same word, will incur some sort of punishment. The first occurrence should result in only a warning, but punishment for future infractions is left at the discretion of wizards, based on the severity and frequency of the offenses.
If in doubt, if you’re trying to use a particular word to offend someone, you probably shouldn’t use it!
